Two elected to serve on Board of Directors

DALTON, Ga. — North Georgia Electric Membership Corporation brought members from across its seven-county service area together for a pair of in-person district meetings and hosted its 2026 Annual Meeting online. This year’s meeting, held on Thursday, Aug. 6, was the 90th Annual Meeting for NGEMC, which was founded in 1936.
As part of this year’s meeting, members elected two to serve on the NGEMC Board of Directors, which sets policy and oversees the operation of the co-op. Ben “Skip” Mitchell was re-elected to serve as the director for District 1, which includes a portion of Catoosa County. Mark Thomas was re-elected as the District 3 director and will represent parts of Catoosa and Whitfield counties. Both will serve three-year terms.
Members had the opportunity to register for the meeting and vote in director elections online, through a mail-in ballot, or in-person at NGEMC offices or district meetings held in Dalton and Ringgold. 3,668 total members registered to participate in the business meeting.
The business meeting was pre-recorded and is available now on the cooperative’s website, NGEMC.com. The online format is intended to give as many NGEMC members as possible the opportunity to participate in the governance of the cooperative.
The members who attended an in-person meeting had the opportunity to celebrate the co-op’s 90th anniversary, learn more about energy efficiency, the NGEMC vegetation management program, and ask questions of the co-op’s leadership while enjoying lunch.
The cooperative’s fiscal year report included the distribution of over 2.5 billion kilowatt-hours of energy; investment of $30 million in the electric system and equipment for increased reliability; service to more than 108,000 meters; engineering of 6,938 system improvements and new services; installation of 4,794 poles; and maintenance and operation of 36 substations and more than 6,700 miles of line.
