Energy charge to increase Jan. 1

December 15, 2025

The Energy Charge will rise by 0.092 cents per kWh, from 8.426 to 8.518 cents per kWh for the first 5,000 kWh monthly.

Why it matters: This change adds about $1.19 to a typical bill for members using 1,300 kWh monthly.

  • NGEMC is a non-profit. 77% of the electricity revenue we collect goes directly to TVA for power generation and purchases.
  • Rising costs and inflation have made this change necessary.

Charges explained: Your bill includes fixed charges, like the Grid Support Fee, and two variable per-kWh charges.

  • The Energy Charge was last increased in Oct. 2024. 77% of this goes to TVA.
  • The TVA Power Generation Fuel Charge varies monthly based on fuel costs and market costs TVA must pay when they cannot meet demand. 100% of this goes directly to TVA.
