Your Electric Cooperative

Cable In Ground North Georgia Electric Membership Corporation currently serves more than 99,000 customers in portions of seven Northwest Georgia counties. These counties are Catoosa, Chattooga, Floyd, Gordon, Murray, Walker, and Whitfield.

Our members: Residential customers make up about 85 percent of the NGEMC membership while the remaining 15 percent is comprised of commercial and industrial (C & I) customers. Although C & I makes up 15 percent of the membership, they account for 40 percent of the electricity sold by NGEMC.

Our mission: At North Georgia EMC, we derive our greatest satisfaction from serving our customers well. We are here to build a future for North Georgia EMC through unmatched service. We are committed to exceeding our customers’ expectations. We are dependable and recognize our obligations to our communities and the residents, businesses, and industries served by North Georgia EMC.

North Georgia EMC values quality service delivered with the highest integrity. We are committed to the improvement of the quality of life and overall well-being of our community. We recognize the contribution we can make to a clean environment and are sensitive environmental stewards.

We have the highest commitment to our customers’ needs and we place great emphasis on operational excellence and technical competence. We treat our customers and our employees as we would like to be treated ourselves. We believe it is essential to be responsive and empathetic to the needs of our customers and employees. We believe that effective teamwork is critical to our success.

Our size: North Georgia EMC is one of 42 electric membership corporations (EMCs) in the state of Georgia. It is one of Georgia's largest EMCs and maintains some of the lowest rates in the nation. It is one of three Georgia electric co-ops that buy power from the Tennessee Valley Authority.

Our system: About 82 cents of every dollar NGEMC collects is paid to TVA for the purchase of electricity. The remaining balance goes to maintaining, operating, and expanding NGEMC's ever-growing distribution system. This system is comprised of 30 substations and more than 6,000 miles of line. Located in the Northwest Georgia Mountains, North Georgia EMC is a winter peaking system with an all time peak demand of 669 megawatts set January 24, 2003.

Our leaders: North Georgia EMC is governed by a seven-member Board of Directors elected to three-year terms by the membership of the co-op. This board sets policy and oversees the operation of the organization. Under the board, there's a CEO/General Manager, management staff, and about 200 employees who work out of NGEMC's four area offices.

Blood Pressure Checking Annual Meetings: NGEMC usually holds its Annual Meeting the first Thursday in August. NGEMC will hold its 73rd Annual Meeting on Aug. 6, 2009, at the Northwest Georgia Trade & Convention Center in Dalton. For NGEMC as with all electric cooperatives, annual meetings are vital to the work and spirit of the cooperative. A cooperative is an organization created and governed by the people it serves. Annual meetings are the forums through which the consumer/member stays informed and involved in the activity of the organization. Each year at annual meetings, members enjoy entertainment, tour booths showcasing NGEMC programs, see tools their co-op uses, elect directors and hear the annual report.
North Georgia EMC has always had strong participation and large attendance at these events.

Putting Customers First

North Georgia EMC knows we all live in a fast-pace, changing world. But the principles on which NGEMC was founded -- customer ownership and putting the customer first -- continue to be the top priorities in the 21st century.

As an NGEMC member, you're a member of a special electric
cooperative created 72 years ago to bring power to rural Northwest Georgia. As the years have passed, NGEMC has grown dramatically and today serves many commercial and industrial customers as well as its ever-expanding residential membership. However, the principles on which NGEMC was founded haven't changed.

As an electric cooperative, NGEMC serves you in several unique ways:
· It is governed by a board of directors elected from its membership through a democratic process. These directors respond to the needs and concerns of the members just like any elected leader would.
· It charges rates below the state, regional and national averages, despite serving far fewer customers per mile (15) than either investor-owned (35) or city-owned utilities (47).
· It helps provide infrastructure to industrial parks; lights Little League fields and participates in community beautification efforts.
· It partners with area schools and civic groups to better the lives of people in the area.
· And, through economic development packages, it works to attract new business into the area to provide jobs and keep the economy healthy.

Today, NGEMC is 99,000 members strong. Despite the growth, our goals of reliable delivery of electricity and personal, prompt customer service haven't changed. "The principle on which we were founded -- service to our local communities -- is just as strong today as the day we opened our doors," said NGEMC President and CEO Ron Hutchins.

"As our membership continues to grow, our commitment to bring you the best value in quality and reliable service remains steadfast."
