Green Power Switch
Commercial customers can make the Green Power Switch
North Georgia EMC (NGEMC) commercial customers now have a different way to power their businesses called Green Power Switch®. In this program, your company can buy power generated by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) using renewable resources.
When you buy portions of your electricity through Green Power Switch, you are buying TVA power generated from three renewable energy sources: wind, solar, and methane gas.
As a commercial and industrial customer, there are valuable reasons for your company to turn on the Green Power Switch. First, Green Power is generated with renewable resource technology that is easier on the environment. Second, your investment in Green Power Switch goes directly into developing new Green Power Switch technology. Third, all the Green Power TVA generates is added to the Valley's power mix, meaning your company could be using some of the power you helped create.
Yes!! My company is interested and would like to be contacted by a North Georgia EMC representative regarding Green Power Switch.
Green Power Switch is sold in 150-kilowatt-hour blocks that cost $4 each added to your power bill. You can buy specific numbers of these blocks based on the amount of energy your business uses.
| Rate Class |
Minimum Purchase |
| GSA-1 or Under 50 kW |
5 blocks ($20 a month) |
| GSA-2 or 51 kW to 1,000 kW |
25 blocks or 5% of load |
| GSA-3 or 1,001 to 5,000 kW |
250 blocks |
| GSB, GSC, GSD, Direct Served Or over 5,000 kW |
375 blocks |
| Cost=$4 per block -- Block=150 kilowatt-hours |
For instance, small businesses-those with power requirements of 50 kilowatts or less-are asked to buy at least five blocks per month. That's an additional charge of only $20 on your monthly utility bill. Other businesses have different minimum block purchase requirements listed in the chart above.
Right now, renewable resources cost more than traditional power generation methods. But by choosing to pay a little more for Green Power Switch, you help advance the technology and increase the amount of electricity generated from renewable sources.
