Economic Development

When it comes to economic development, North Georgia EMC's customers can benefit greatly from resources available through NGEMC's partnership with the Tennessee Valley Authority, Southeast Industrial Development Association and Georgia Electric Membership Corporation.

One of the founding precepts behind the creation of the Tennessee Valley Authority in 1933 was to fight the Great Depression by creating jobs and bolstering the nation's flailing economy. When NGEMC was founded in 1936, it was to extend the power-giving arm of TVA into the rural countryside of Northwest Georgia, making the way for more productive farms, new lifestyle comforts, brighter, economically stronger communities, and an explosion in new technologies.

Today, economic development, along with energy production and environmental stewardship, is one of the integrated purposes of TVA. TVA's goals are to increase capital investment and attract and retain better-paying jobs for the people it serves. TVA is dedicated to meeting those goals and preparing communities for economic growth.

Through our partnership with TVA we offer a Comprehensive Services Program designed to help our commercial and industrial members save money on energy usage. We hope that by taking advantage of this program, our Commerce & Industry members can capitalize from these savings, using them to strengthen and grow their businesses.

NGEMC also partners with TVA and the Southeast Industrial Development Association to recruit and retain businesses in our region.

SEIDA is a regional economic development association made up of local communities and TVA power distributors in the Southeast Tennessee Valley region. SEIDA facilitates the creation of jobs, capital investment and additional power load throughout the SEIDA service area, which encompasses Southeast Tennessee, North Georgia and Western North Carolina. SEIDA provides a coordinated approach to the delivery of a range of services to assist businesses with locations, expansions, and help with the identification of financing opportunities, infrastructure development, and marketing and demographic research.

Georgia EMC's Community and Economic Development Department provides an array of services designed to assist NGEMC with improving the economic vitality of Northwest Georgia communities.
